天理教語学院 Tenrikyo Language Institute – TLI

The Tenrikyo Language Institute (TLI) is a language school that was reborn in April 1994. It inherits the legacy and spirit of the Japanese Language Course of the Special Program at Tenri University—which was established in 1958 to educate the children of overseas Tenrikyo believers—and the Japanese Language Course of the Special Program at Tenri University, which was transitioned in 1981 as part of university reforms, along with the newly established Foreign Languages Course.

The Tenrikyo Language Institute (TLI) was relaunched with four departments: the Japanese Language Department and the Oyasato Fuse-komi Department for international students, and the Missionary Language Department and the Missionary Training Department for students aiming to engage in overseas missionary work. Since then, it has been cultivating human resources to support Tenrikyo’s overseas missionary efforts.

In addition to Japanese students, the school has welcomed international students from 46 countries and regions, producing more than 2,000 graduates to date. Established in 1994, the Tenrikyo Language Institute (TLI) celebrated its 30th anniversary in April 2024.
